15 months

I've been telling people the wrong age for a few weeks now. You are NOW 15 months old.

Thanksgiving was a blast.
Cousin Grace was in town and you two were so cute together!
You shared your toys and rocking horse very nicely with her.
Will find old TV and computer cables and drag them all through the house
Started to wean your nightly bottle because I was so sick of you peeing through your diaper and clothes. Every. Single. Morning.
Down to only 5oz.
Sleep really well and are quite flexible and very good at transferring to your bed.
It makes life sooo much easier. Thank you.
You sleep like a champ but will wake up at 630 on the dot pretty often and just need changed and snuggled back to bed. It's goofy and we can't seem to figure it out.
The Babers are in town and you love following them and being in the middle of play time.
Makes me think you'll be a great big brother.
The boys really enjoy you too.
Especially Jack and he will follow you around and imitate you!
Apparently you were wild and had so much fun at the chick-fil-a play place! I'm sad I missed it.
Christmas was a hoot and you got so many new toys!
The favorite seems to be the frog from Tricia and the gears from aunt Elaine.
Your eating is about the same but it's hard to work on it when we are always out and about with family and traveling around.
Have 8 total teeth (4 up top and 4 on the bottom) but I can see a top molar coming through!

14 months

Whoops! I'm behind! We went to the doctor a bit late too. Your 1 year check up was actually at 14 months. No worries.

Weigh 20.2 lbs and 29.1inches
Apparently your height has slowed down and is of some concern.
Probably because you only eat Cheerios.
But you can now run through the house
And climb the ladder on your play set.
A few days after the doctor's, you got quite sick.
Hot, hot tamale fevers but daddy took care of you all day and let you sleep on him.
Then mama rocked you all night and the next day until you got better.
Got your first haircut by Miss Lindsey and you look like such a little boy!
Every time the doorbell rang for Halloween trick or treaters, you ran to the door to say, "Hi!"
You mastered that word that night.
Usually only take a bedtime bottle now.
Picked a pumpkin and went on a hayride at Pumpkin Pandemonium.
Finally worked on your sleeping capabilities.
Daddy took the brunt of the load and since has been good!
My baby sleeps!!!!!!!

13 months

Such a big boy!
And still such a picky eater.
There was no smashing of the first birthday cake
We had to put Cheerios on top to get you interested.
Love the new push mower and school bus and ball machine
The move into the new house was rough for you,
We slept in the chair many a hours.
And ever since your party, you haven't slept well at all-
Like twice a night and sometimes three.
Such a trouble maker, you look around to see if anyone notices before you swipe my phone
Like Linus, you carry a blanket around ALL the time and can't sleep without one.
Keeping you warm at night has proven tough
Socks, thermals, fleece footies, and lots of blankets is how you like it!
Talk and babble away, having your own private conversation.
Won't say mama but responds with dada to everything!

N and L and the Big E

Position vacant: Perfect Couple Friends

Husband must be in a band but not the drummer and have adorably cute and super friendly wife. Couple must like juice and hosting spontaneous BBQs. Required to own crazy- hyper, well behaved black and white boston terrier who can jump higher than shortest friend is tall. Preferred to have a son approximately 5 months younger than arranged best friend; position to be filled by Joseph J. Ambrose Jr.  Both couples will agree to have second child at similar time to secure second best friend and playmate position for life. Husband must be handy and tall enough to hold ceiling fan up in 8ft ceilings and enjoy playin golf. Wife must enjoy walks at the mall, baking brownies and Pinterest projects. Said couple must be in agreement to not move farther than 25 minutes away.

Are we really the first culture in the history of mankind to fail to grasp the glory and seriousness of motherhood? The pagans deified Maternity and turned it into a goddess. We’ve gone the other direction; we treat it like a disease or an obstacle.

The people who completely immerse themselves in the tiring, thankless, profoundly important job of raising children ought to be put on a pedestal. We ought to revere them and admire them like we admire rocket scientists and war heroes. These women are doing something beautiful and complicated and challenging and terrifying and painful and joyous and essential. Whatever they are doing, they ARE doing something, and our civilization DEPENDS on them doing it well. Who else can say such a thing? What other job carries with it such consequences?

Month 12 - 1 year old!

A year ago today, I was laboring and trying to finish the final Harry Potter book. It's gone by so quick and so much has happened. You've changed so much! And so have we! Just living day to day and trying to survive, sometimes I've lost track of time. And now you're already a year old!
Walk more than you crawl
Can do laps around the condo chasing Zoey
Wear size 12 month clothes and sleepers
Consistently wake up once for a snuggle and a bottle in the middle of the night
But I know you know how to and are capable of sleeping through the night!!
Down to one long nap during the day
Sometimes laugh and repeat me when I tell you No
Such a picky eater - some days it's only green beans, somedays cheerios, sometimes you want me to feed you and other days you will only eat if you can do it yourself
You're always throwing food on the floor though
You light up when you see YaYa
And I swear you say Dada every time the phone rings
Take a breakfast, nap, bedtime, and an occasional afternoon bottles only
Have six teeth, four uppers and two bottom teeth
Will occasionally hold your own bottle but prefer not to
Learning how to drink from sippy cup
Spent your first birthday with Aunt Marge while momma and dada pack up the condo

Month 11

Two blissful weeks. That's it for sleeping through the night. You're back to waking up once for a 3am snuggle.
Seriously, I'm just giving up on it.
Opinionated. There are tears and screaming when you don't get your way.
And you've started to throw your body around or go limp when you don't want to be picked up or hindered from doing something.
But boy, are you cute!
Your hair is still really light strawberry blonde-ish but it's getting longer and longer. You may need a trim soon!
You are able to skip a bottle here or there if you get filled up on food.
But you're a picky eater. You don't like anything chunky or that you have to pick up and eat unless it Cheerios.
And still wont hold your own bottle or sippy cup.
Can furniture walk really well and will stretch your arms out as far as you can to reach the next piece of furniture.
You stood on your own once and waved to the next door neighbor.
Love the new house and finding all sorts if trouble to get into.
Got your first pair of robot shoes!
Babble and growl when you're playing.
Carry around books from room to room and sit like you're reading them.
Occasionally will sleep through the night but not consistently.
Have 5 teeth
One nap a day

month ten

Double digits baby!

You're way too skinny (14%)!
It's because you're too busy to eat
Have to wear overnight diapers to bed because it's gross having sopping wet pajamas at 3am
The double diaper technique wasn't cutting it anymore
Spent your first July 4th with Grammy T sleeping while Mama and Dada went out
You could set a record in speed crawling when someone is chasing you
Prefer to stand
Already started to furniture walk and can make your way around the entire kitchen table and chairs
I'm just giving up on getting you to ever sleep through the night
Staycationed at Edgewater Beach, the Akron Zoo, and Beachwood Mall and had your first taste of ice cream
Getting to be so vocal and just love to make all kinds of noises
Got your first fat lip and bloody nose :(
Learning how to eat chunks of food instead of purees
LOVE puffs and cheerios
Think its funny to feed other people your cheerios
Clap your hands and bounce/wiggle to music

Month 9

Went to the pool for the fist time and you're a fish!
Scooch and roll and dig with your toes to get what/where you want
Attempted and nearly succeed pulling up on an ottoman at Nick and Laurie's
Starting to get an attitude and whine when you're frustrated
Can clap your hands and are learning how to wave
The drooling seems to have slowed down a bit
Although maybe that's just because you're on your belly more often
In just a matter of 8 days you have learned how to
-effectively army crawl
-get up on all fours
-go from sit to crawl, and crawl to sit
-pull up to stand on nearly everything
The kitchen is your favorite place to play
Pull down everything from the stainless steel table and bang on it
Feel like I spend all day chasing you and baby proofing
Your sleeping regressed (again) but we are getting back on track
Still like to wake up once a night for a snack and a cuddle
Got a Burley bike trailer and tested it out
You hang on to the sides for dear life but don't cry so we'll keep trying until you love it

Everything has changed and all of a sudden! This has been a big month

Motherhood is not a hobby, it is a calling. You do not collect children because you find them cuter than stamps. It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in. It is what God gave you time for.
Christian mothers carry their children in hostile territory. When you are in public with them, you are standing with, and defending, the objects of cultural dislike. You are publicly testifying that you value what God values, and that you refuse to value what the world values. You stand with the defenseless and in front of the needy. You represent everything that our culture hates, because you represent laying down your life for another—and laying down your life for another represents the gospel.

It's surprising how much guilt comes with being a mom. It follows me around all day everyday and burdens me with thoughts of I'm not good enough and if only I was better and its all my fault. It starts early too.

Like for not taking my prenatal vitamins because of how nauseous I was and then having to go through rounds of ultrasounds and blood work because the baby might not be okay.

Or wondering why my life is filled with blessings and a healthy baby while others suffer with infertility, miscarriage, or the death of their children.

Not being able to breastfeed after 8 weeks of unsuccessful struggling.

Every time I make a bottle, I feel like I'm feeding my kid McDonalds instead of home grown, organic goodness.

I think its all my fault when my child cries in pain from gas or vomits for 45 minutes after another unsuccessful attempt with a brand of formula.

And if my baby gets sick, it will be because I work 20 hours a week taking care of other people's sick babies and I brought the germs home.

But, as my mom reminded me, guilt robs you of joy. And I am called to be joyful and rejoice always. So I will battle against guilt and I will overcome because I have so much to be thankful for.
